Temporary uploads
Files you send in Ember DMs and group chats can go to Nookara's temporary storage. They are free and don't use up your account storage, but they are deleted after a while nobody opens them.
What a temporary upload is
When you attach a file in a DM or group chat, Ember asks where it should go: temporary storage or your Nookara account storage. You can remember the choice, change it in My Account > Chat, or pick once from the + button.
A temporary file gets a link on nookara.cc/t/. Anyone with the link can open it, it doesn't count toward your storage, and under every message with temporary files Ember shows when they expire.
Why they expire
Temporary storage is free for everyone, and it all lives on one shared 8 GB disk. Deleting files nobody needs any more is what keeps room free for the next ones, without asking anyone to pay or clean up.
Opening a file starts its clock over
A file doesn't expire a fixed time after it was sent. It expires a while after the last time anyone opened it, so the files people still use stay.
Its clock starts at the time in the table below, for example 30 days for a picture.
The clock starts over from that moment. It is reset, never added up, and at most once every 10 minutes.
When the clock runs out it is deleted for good, and the chat shows "This file expired" instead.
Popular files last longer: once 3 different people opened a file in the last 7 days its time is 1.5 times as long, and at 10 people twice as long (up to 60 days).
How long each kind of file lasts
Time left after the last time someone opened it. The columns with more people count different people in the last week.

Sizes are "up to": a 12 MB picture counts as another file, a 60 MB video as anything bigger. Files can be up to 95 MB.
With Nookara Pro
Your temporary uploads, on your terms
- 2 times as long for every file you send, up to 120 days instead of 60.
- Pick when it expires before you send it: click the clock on the attachment in Ember. Default 1 day 7 days 30 days 90 days 120 days
- A date you pick is fixed: the file is deleted then, however often it is opened. "Default" keeps the normal clock that starts over when someone opens it.
Keeping a file for good
Temporary storage is for sharing, not keeping. For a file that has to stay:
Pick "Nookara account storage" when you send it (or + > Upload to account storage). It stays until you delete it and counts toward your storage: 250 MB free, 2 GB with Pro.
Got a picture, video or sound? The bookmark button on it copies it to your Saved Media, on your account.
A copy on your own device never expires. Expired files can't be brought back, not even by staff.
Good to know
- Up to 95 MB a file and 2048 MB a day per person.
- Windows programs and scripts (.exe, .bat, .ps1 and the like) can't be sent. Pictures, videos, sounds and plain text open in the browser; everything else downloads.
- If the shared storage ever fills up, the files nobody opened for the longest go first, even before their time is up. A file opened in the last 24 hours is never one of them.
- The link is long and random, so nobody finds it by guessing - but anyone you or the people in the chat share it with can open it.
- Building something? The same rules are in the Nookara API guide and as JSON at /t/policy.
